I agree with Paul. I have been accused of not working because smiling at computer screen when emailing customer.
I am very depressed now at work, but was told I have mind problems that I shouldn't complain.

10steps suggested above, I'm doing 9 regularly, wondering if this depression is still just in my head, not caused by external reasons.

Paul Maurice, fired for smiling too much? Really? I'd be depressed working in that kind of environment too. It doesn't take much to figure out that if you work in a place that can fire you for smiling too much, then it is not a happy place to work causing your depression.

My employer is reducing our salaries by a third and has changed our contracts without consent- we are all childcare workers- qualified and experienced. We have been fighting the changes through a Union for a year with little success.I feel totally devalued at work. Ann

I know you wrote about problem relatives etc..but write about internal strength...to be so contended insied..with a controlled brain, that no matter what other say to us..we r happy.

The Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy website says that the program teaches “how to sidestep mental habits such as rumination and self-blame.” Although the stated purpose of MBCT is preventing cases of depression, it seems reasonable to assume that, because it teaches people to deal with negative thinking, it will at least serve as a treatment for mild to moderate depression when used in combination with other treatment(s), especially for people who have experience with meditation. For example, the University of Kansas program Therapeutic Lifestyle Change, which is described by the researchers as a treatment for depression, includes “anti-ruminative behaviors” as one of its six “elements.”
