Most of us take our senses for granted. Unless we experience problems with them.
As they say, you only truly appreciate the value of something until it’s gone.
Let me tell you the story of this little girl, who was born under very difficult circumstances, with various complications that most of us will probably not know of. This was two years ago, and since then, she has grown and developed steadily.
Until her parents noticed that she seemed to be hard of hearing. Indeed, upon checking with their doctors, the little girl had sensorineural hearing loss in both her ears, allowing her to hear only the loudest sounds around her.
Her parents got her hearing aids, but the devices didn’t really help her.
So, why am I telling you this story?
Because it’s the true story of Rhyka, who is in dire need of cochlear implants. You might have heard of this medical procedure, which involves embedding electronic devices to “cure” hearing problems.
According to KidsHealth, a cochlear implant is also sometimes called “a ‘bionic ear’.
The device gives the patient a chance to regain or restore sense of hearing. While it cannot be considered a miracle cure, it certainly raises one’s hopes, especially for someone as young as Rhyka.
The cost of cochlear implants is astronomical. It does vary depending on the country and hospital facilities, but the estimated cost for Rhyka’s procedure is around $24,000.
This is where you can come into the picture. Rhyka’s parents have started an online campaign to help fund the cochlear implant.
While you may not know them personally, if you feel for Rhyka and think that you can help in any way you can, you can visit the campaign page.
Here’s your chance to pay it forward, and help Rhyka be able to hear.
